At Central Surrey Voluntary Action, we understand that true support goes beyond practical help. Emotional wellbeing, social connection, and a sense of belonging are just as essential – especially for those who have been displaced from their homes.
Recently, we launched a new initiative designed specifically for Ukrainian men in our community – a 12-week programme of golf lessons offering a safe and welcoming space to relax, learn something new, and connect with others through sport. With the support of a professional coach and a friendly atmosphere, participants have the opportunity to unwind, build confidence, and share meaningful moments together.
What began as a simple idea has grown into something truly special – a chance to take a break from daily pressures, experience encouragement and camaraderie, and feel part of a wider, supportive community.
But this initiative is about more than just sport. It’s about creating space for wellbeing, friendship, and inclusion – something just for them.
The response has been heartwarming. Each week brings laughter, encouragement, and a genuine sense of togetherness. For many, it’s their first time trying golf – and for all, it’s a valuable opportunity to recharge and feel uplifted.
We’re proud to continue developing projects like this – because when people feel seen, supported, and included, it makes all the difference.
