Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) helps voluntary, community and faith sector (VCFS) organisations make safer recruitment decisions of their employee and volunteers. DBS is a vital tool to safeguard vulnerable adults and children for VCFS organisations.
The Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) was established in 2012 and carries out the functions previously undertaken by the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) and the Independent Safeguarding Authority (ISA).

Central Surrey Voluntary Action (CSVA) is a registered organisation that carries out DBS checks on behalf of VCFS organisations in Surrey and is entitled by law to ask an individual to reveal their full criminal history – also known as asking ‘an exempted question’.
CSVA offer free DBS check for volunteers who are supporting VCFS organisations in Surrey. We also offer DBS checks for employees, you can find out the cost of these checks here.
