Central Surrey Voluntary Action (CSVA) offers free DBS checks for volunteers and charge addition £10 admin fee on top of DBS charges for employees working with Voluntary, Community and faith Sector organisations in Surrey.

In order to use this service, your organisation must be registered with CSVA. To register, please email admin@csva.co.uk and our DBS team will get in touch with you to make necessary arrangements.

Our offices are based in Epsom, Dorking and Walton-on-Thames, our team is only able to see DBS applicants by appointment only.

Different types of DBS and costs 

Basic Check 

This ‘basic disclosure’ check is available for people living and working in England and Wales. The check will only show convictions that are not ‘spent’, for example, some types of caution will disappear after 3 months.

It costs £25. You must be 16 or over to apply.

It usually takes up to 14 days for you to receive your certificate.

The service is available from 8 am to 11:30 pm.

The following DBS checks can only be requested by Voluntary, Community and Faith Sector organisations registered with Central Surrey Voluntary Action. In accordance with DBS rules, individuals cannot request these checks.

Standard DBS checks –  £26 +£10 admin fee* 

This check is mainly for people involved in the legal profession e.g. barrister, solicitors, legal executives etc…

People involved in financial services positions e.g. chartered accountant, certified accounts.

Enhanced DBS Check without Barring List Check –  £44 + £10 admin fee*  

The enhanced check is available for specific duties, positions and licences included in both the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions Order 1975) and the Police Act 1997 (Criminal Records) regulations, for example, regularly caring for, training, supervising or being solely in charge of children, specified activities with adults in receipt of health care or social care services and applicants for gaming and lottery licences. An enhanced level certificate contains the same PNC information as the standard level certificate but also includes a check of information held locally by police forces.

Enhanced DBS Check with Barring List Check –  £44 + £10 admin fee * 

The Enhanced Check with Barring list check (s) is only available for those individuals who carry out regulated activity. An Enhanced level Certificate with barred list checks contained the same PNC and local police as a standard level check but it will also include checks against the children’s and/or adult barring list.

Please note that Disclosure and Barring Service is unable to check the criminal record of applicants who have lived aboard at any time. The checks are restricted to the United Kingdom only.
