During this time volunteers are currently working from home.
Elmbridge, Runnymede and Spelthorne Talking News is a voluntary organisation which provides a free service of local news to blind and visually impaired people, as well as others who have difficulty in reading. We have been giving the service continuously since 1975.
The main duties would entail assisting the Secretary in keeping records, attending committee meetings and publicising the Talking Newspaper by contacting local media, preparing press releases, ensuring information about the Charity is available to local Borough and County Councils and organising attendance at any networking opportunities that may arise.
A six monthly duty roster is prepared quarterly in order that the weekly tasks are carried out. It is the volunteer’s responsibility to arrange a swap and inform others of the change.
Computer literacy and communication skills.
Times are flexible except Friday. Papers are collected from the newsagent and taken to the studio to start selection of articles by 10.00 prior to recording, when a master recording is prepared for copying. Two or three volunteers will start copying the recordings at 1.30 to take to the Post Office before 4.30 p.m.
