Friendly and outgoing volunteers with patience and good communication skills are needed by The Sunnybank Trust to provide Advocacy services to their Clients who reside in the Epsom area.
Our Clients are people with learning disabilities and their ages range from 18 years upwards.
Advocacy Services help people with a learning disability deal with life-changing choices and even simple decisions in their day to day lives, whilst providing the respect and dignity to which they are entitled. For example; We may assist the client to put their views across on issues such as housing, consenting to have an operation, accessing social activities etc. It is the role of the advocate to provide support and explain situations so that the client understands and is able to make an informed decision on their own welfare.
Our Advocacy model is based upon the citizen advocacy model, and follows the principles of the Advocacy Charter. This role can be flexible to suit your availability.
Volunteers need; A willing attitude, and be reliable and friendly people.
It is important that as an Advocate they are prepared to be committed and loyal to their advocacy partner.
A 'can-do' approach to working with disabled people is essential. Own travel arrangements important due to the need to visit advocacy partners. This role would be suitable for a person looking to gain experience of the disability sector.
