We are looking for volunteers who would be willing to visit families in their own home once a week for 2-3 hours, offering non-judgmental and confidential emotional and practical support to local families with young children.
Our volunteers work with families who are facing many different challenges, which may include physical or mental health issues, financial hardship, isolation (particularly post Covid-19), family breakdown, or struggling with children’s behavior.
Volunteers may support a family for a few weeks or up to an average of 6 months, enabling them to develop resilience and move on positively with their lives. The only real qualifications that we ask for is that volunteers are either parents themselves, or have parenting experience, have a positive, supportive attitude and an understanding of the pressures of parenting.
Full training and ongoing support will be given to all volunteers, and includes various social volunteer events. We are looking ahead to have a new bank of volunteers trained and ready to go by autumn 2021 once Covid-19 restrictions are lifted, and face to face support in the family home came resume.
OUR NEXT PREP COURSE - WEDNESDAYS FROM 21ST APRIL - 23RD JUNE 2021
Volunteers need to be parents themselves or to have had parenting experience. All our volunteers are required to complete a nine-week preparation course (1 day per week) before they can work with a family and will receive ongoing support from a Home-Start Co-ordinator.
This opportunity is based out in the community working one to one with families.
Flexible to suit family and volunteer. 9 weeks Volunteer preparation course starts in April. We ask volunteers to commit to volunteer with us for at least 1 year.
