Befrienders visit elderly people in their own homes to relieve loneliness and isolation. A minimum commitment of one hour per week is required but timings are flexible and a DBS check will be needed.  All our clients live in the north side of Reigate & Banstead.

‘I have been a ‘Befriender’ for around four years now and thoroughly enjoy the time I spend talking and providing company to Vera.  I look forward to Tuesday mornings which is when we usually meet. She answers the door, I’m greeted with a smile and I go straight to a comfy seat. Our lovely conversation seems to start up from where it left off the previous week.  My friend has led an interesting and varied life and we range over so many topics while we talk. She’s worked on a newspaper, written plays for the BBC and been a school teacher to name but a few things. Vera has some very amusing stories involving some of the children she’s taught and the people she’s met over the years (including Prince Phillip and Cassius Clay!). Of course we have plenty of tea and biscuits and quite often some very nice cake. We put the world to rights and always find something to laugh about.’ JT

‘When the suggestion of a Befriender was first made, questions arose. What is a Befriender? What happens if it doesn’t work out? In reality my Befriender turned out to be utterly delightful. We chat for Britain - you name it, we talk about it. All washed down with a cup of tea, cake and laughter. Added to this she helps sort out my Veggie Box order on her magic phone as well as helping in a myriad of practical ways that other people just don’t think of.  My Befriender is a friend indeed.’  VB
