Surrey Drug & Alcohol Care is a registered company with charitable status which has been set up as a result of a need in the county of Surrey for a confidential Freephone help line for substance misusers, those with mild to moderate mental health problems, their families, friends and colleagues, aiming to make a difference to their lives.
It is currently partly commissioned through Surrey County Council Public Health and partly through private donation. Trained volunteers respond to the distress caused by substance misuse or mental health on a high-quality help line that is accessible 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, emphasising empowerment and self-help. It also runs a successful telephone counselling service for substance misuse. In addition the charity has an outreach education role with schools, colleges and professional agencies.
Provide leadership and direction to trustees in fulfilling their responsibilities of governance and strategic direction of the charity. To work in partnership and to support contractors and volunteers helping them to achieve the aims of the organisation.
The position is home based with a commitment to attend meetings including internal quarterly committee meetings, the AGM, volunteer training, and external ones within Surrey representing the charity. Travel expenses are paid.
