Do you like activity and helping others? Are you free Thursday between 8 – 9 pm? Do you live near East Grinstead?
We need Volunteer Poolside Assistants to help us provide assisted recreational swimming
activities, in a safe environment, for people of all ages with disabilities or
with diagnosis that could benefit from water therapy.
The Club has exclusive use of the Kings Centre pool changing facilities, flat bed, hoist and warm air heaters on a Thursday. For some this is the only real exercise and freedom of movement they enjoy each week.
The role would involve helping Tadpoles to negotiate the poolside safely, help them approach the hoist if necessary and provide the same help after their swim. Or it could mean to count lengths if independent swimmers requests it.
Poolside volunteers do not need any special qualifications, just an awareness of all the varying needs of our members.
Good communication and observation skills, empathy towards people with a disability are essential.
Thursday evening between 7.45 – 9.20pm.
We appreciate that volunteers cannot commit every Thursday and welcome those who could come along regularly, even if this is not every week. The official session is from 8pm -9pm. It is helpful if volunteers are ready at 8pm when we are allowed in the water. Many members leave the pool before 9pm and the last volunteer is usually away by 9.20pm
