The volunteer worker will be part of a team providing a Community Club for children aged 7-11 years who live on and around the Forest Estate. As a team member the volunteer worker will help to create a fun, safe environment with constructive things to do, offering practical, emotional and educational support. With the aim of improving their self-esteem, helping with relational and self-management skills, grow in their leadership skills, teaching them to take personal ownership of their environment, the place where they live, their future and their interactions with others

Time commitment:  One afternoon per week term time (Thursday) for 2 hours. The Club runs from 6-7 pm with set up/ down 30 mins at start and end of session. Further opportunities are available to help at holiday club events such as Community Fairs and reward trips at the end of term.

What skills do I need?

Key Responsibilities:

·     Helps set up and clear away hall activities.

·     Promote good behaviour, reporting any incidents and behavioural issues to leader in    charge

·     Engage with and encourage the children to participate in the  activities provided

 

Person Specification:

·       A caring, enthusiastic and encouraging individual

·       The ability to communicate and interact effectively with children

·       Ability to work within a team environment

·       Responsible and reliable

·       Bucket loads of Patience

·       The desire to develop young people's skills and abilities 

Experience: Although no previous experience is required for this post we welcome those who have previously worked in a child centered environment and have experience in dealing with challenging individuals.

Safeguarding of Children: You will asked to complete a criminal records disclosure and upon receipt of satisfactory checks and references there is a three month probationary period with an informal interview at the end to chat about how it’s going. You will be expected to attend at least one safeguarding training evening per year which will be run out of the Hub.
