We are looking for volunteers to sing with us at our weekly prison sessions at HMP Downview every Wednesday afternoon.
You will be singing with our team of exceptional musicians, and the women of HMP Downview every Wednesday afternoon throughout the year.
The Liberty Choir team will provide you with all the guidance you need for your first visit.
With your help, we can support even more prisoners as they serve their sentences. We know that attending Liberty Choir can have a significant impact on reducing reoffending rates.
Singing together helps participants develop valuable life skills, such as learning to appreciate themselves and others. Over time, participants form new social bonds while improving literacy, maths, music appreciation and much more.
Liberty Choir is a national charity bringing members of the public into prisons across the UK to sing with our choir of musicians, volunteers and prisoners every week.
Our sessions are designed to build prisoners’ self-confidence and provide access to new social networks in the wider community.
The choir sings from music sheets as well as learning songs by heart, and has a wide repertoire from swing and gospel to pop and classical. No prior musical experience is required, but a love of music and singing is desirable.
Volunteers need an open mind and a non-judgemental approach to prisons and inmates. A supportive, positive and caring attitude is essential.
