Our service is designed to provide support to offenders through mentoring to encourage full integration and to promote social inclusion.

We are looking for volunteer mentors to work with offenders in prison and ex-offenders out in the community. The project is led by each individual service users needs, it could be attending an appointment with them, registering at a GP surgery, discussing feelings and emotions, helping with reading and writing, listening, having a coffee and chat or meeting at the prison gates on release, it really depends on the individual, but it will include:

Personal Qualities:

• Non-judgemental/non-discriminatory 

• Approachable and friendly manner

• Flexibility 

• Reliable and punctual

• Organised and able to use own initiative

 Skills and Abilities:

• Good communication and interpersonal skills

• Ability to respect confidentiality

• Ability to work as part of a team

• Understanding the importance of professional boundaries

 Previous Experience:

• Experience of working with vulnerable people

Applicants without the following skills or experience will still be considered as we provide training and support which will help you work towards acquiring these skills.

Benefits to you:

 We ask for a time commitment of 4 hours per week for minimum 6 months. An initial two day foundation training is provided by Pact and ongoing relevant/refresher training will be provided during support meetings.
